Charged with assault on father

A 41-year-old man has appeared in court accused of assaulting his father.

Darren Doherty, whose address was given on court papers as Cedar Street, is charged with common assault, assaulting police and causing damage to a police car on July 17.

The defendant was released on his own bail to reside at an address approved by police. He is banned from having any contact with his father and prohibited from consuming alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.

Doherty will appear in court again at a later date.
