The Loughs Agency has urged people not to flush gloves and disposal wipes down toilets during the COVID-19 lockdown after responding to a pollution report at local river.

The cross-border body attended an incident on the River Strule one of the main fish habitats within the Foyle system.

"Loughs Agency recently visited a pollution report on the River Strule. Officers identified that pumps had been blocked due to wipes and gloves being flushed down toilets," a spokesperson confirmed.

The fisheries protection agency shared a photograph of the pollution and said: "These pollution issues should not be happening. Toilets are for the 3 P's only. Pee, poo and paper!"
